we all want to be FURLESS don’t we?

Our Eco warrior Becca Kennedy, has been quite on www.twosixandbrush.com of late. Not because she isn’t a completely dedicated amazing artist who loves to contribute… but because she is actually going to ALL LENGTHS to educate and train herself in the world of eco friendly. You would be amazed at what she is getting up to.

There is no doubt in my mind we will see some amazing accomplishments by Becca Kennedy in our industry in years to come… so keep a mental note of her name. You will want to drop it into conversation in the future.

One thing Becca has done for us is get in contact with Furless… a brand with an eco friendly brush range.

Not only has she interviewed them, she has shot an inspired shoot just for www.twosixandbrush.com!

Enjoy… and get your green on.

FURLESS

By Becca Kennedy.

It is with unashamed excitement I invite you to relish in the concept of a veritable candy store of brushes, make up cases, accessories, eco tools and colour banging, pigment punching mineral make up all presented to you via online shop front. This alone is heaven for any makeup artist right?

But what is more exciting is the message behind each product, the humble hero that hides behind the elegant packaging. The name alone conjures up an evocative image in any pensive player. It is “Furless” A company I stumbled across after observing in disbelief and horror, the brutality of the furring trade that would appear to be intrinsically linked to the cosmetics industry.

While humanity is my main source of objection to fur, I would prefer wear my own skin and it seems I am not the only one to have a strong opinion on the topic.

After reading the homepage I was already sold, but upon speaking to Coralie the voice behind the logo, I cannot speak highly enough of this company. Not only are the brushes of beautiful workmanship and without a morsel of fur, anyone could be fooled these are good looking imposters and simply divine to use, the pigments pack a punch of concentrated colour and present with flawless blend ability and the cases are unique and scream “I am artist hear me roar” there is a stand being made for humanity, one giving power back to the consumer and information that I personally hope will reconnect us with compassion as an industry.

I had the pleasure of asking Coralie a few questions.

How did the story behind “Furless” come about?

Furless came about because of the lack of choice here in Australia for pro cruelty free brushes.

Our motivation is to reshape the way women view beauty and all that is associated with the industry.  We would love to see a love and acceptance of all body shapes and sizes.  How wonderful would it be if all women could feel free of the pressure to fit into a mould that can never be attained.  Very few women on this planet can ever look like your standard runway model and that is OK.  We don’t all need to look the same and it won’t stop us becoming awesome, mums, wives, dentists, doctors, artists, nurses, writers and so the list goes on.  Differences are good things and the idea that a one size fits all approach to beauty is rather silly.

Why Furless?

The name Furless came about as a reminder that there is no need for animals to suffer for women to have fabulous beauty products as there are many alternatives and hopefully change is just around the corner.

In five words tell us what the word “Furless” represents.

                 Fun

                Compassion

                Quality

                Equality

                Art

What are the driving beliefs behind the name “Furless” and where do you see the company in 5 years?

Furless Goals:

To make women more aware and to actively engage with them to have fun and to make educated choices along the way.

To start a movement to ask women to expect more from other companies to provide what is good for us and for our planet.

To unite women and to embrace all our differences.

To help and encourage one another whenever the opportunity arises.

To promote creativity and create a sense of acceptance and belonging.

To continue sponsoring Wildlife arc and helping create an awareness to the issues our native wildlife are up against.

What are some of the challenges “Furless” comes up against in the industry?

The idea that synthetic brushes are inferior to fur. We receive email after email from customers telling us how much they love their brushes, and how surprised they are at the quality and function.

Like our own hair, animal hair dries out and becomes brittle over time – we have all experienced those little specs of hair left on our faces from a fur brush on its last legs. Synthetic hair sheds far less, if at all, and lasts far longer than fur does. Plus they are super dooper soft.

Is “Furless” limited to vegans and eco savvy fashionistas?

Not at all. Furless has slowly become accepted in the beauty community as an alternative go to for makeup brushes. Makeup artists are turning to us through word of mouth, and makeup schools are now sending their students our way.

Our products are great quality for a great price, and you don’t need to be vegan to realise this, the cruelty free part is an added bonus.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about Furless?

Yes! We offer a 20% discount to makeup artists working in the industry. All we ask  for is a website or some sort of listing showing that they are indeed working artists, and we sign them up. We also have blank makeup design templates that can be downloaded for free from our website.

We also sell brush ranges to artists in bulk at a discounted price and offer customised labelling of the artists logo/name.

I road tested the bamboo range in a shoot very specific to bamboo and my love for the eco savvy monocot (I personally think bamboo rocks). I fell in love with the angled foundation brush, this is hands down my fave in the collection…I love using it with cream blush for a striking glow or with a liquid bronzer for those defined contour lines.

The bullet brush was my close second….because its synthetic I actually used it for precise concealing…and boy does it work a treat in all those hard to reach areas-eg-the inner part of the eye.

The blush brushes are soft and so pleasant to work with but firm enough for a good amount of control for precise product placement…

They also come in a gorgeous hemp case and I personally think would make a wonderful addition to any make-up artist’s prized kit.

I will be a repeat customer at Furless, because I am conscious of the difference our industry can make one step at a time to causes in relation to the eco system and the animals we share it with.

  1. As a vegan myself I had pretty much given up on using makeup brushes, choosing instead to just bear with my old “pre vegan” brushes I bought years ago.

However Becca was so stoked about these brushes she gave them to me to try after our shoot and my gosh I’m so in love. Well done Bec for spreading the word and a massive high fives to Furless for giving us more options! LOVE these brushes (and Bec is right, the hemp case really is lovely!)
