The Green Brush Project
What’s it all about?
The Green Brush Project is an industry project created for the support and development of Makeup Artists in Australia.
Starting in 2010 as an experiment via social media by makeup artist Becca Gilmartin… the Green Brush Project has evolved into a project that is of real value and contribution to the Makeup Industry.
The Green Brush Project’s purpose
To create and maintain a SPACE for Makeup Artists to support each other as artists and encourage integrity and culture within our industry.
The Green Brush Project is home to:

The Emerging Artist Mentorship
A project launched once a year that connects senior Makeup Artists with emerging Makeup Artists around Australia and allows for one on one guidance and career development.
The goal is for senior artists to enable emerging artists to be confident and inspired in themselves as a makeup artist in such a way which allows for a pathway for success to become clear.
Mini Mentorships
The GBP Mini Mentorships are run throughout the year in all cities of Australia. These mentorships are created to add the career mentorship experience to a traditional work experience opportunity.
The GBP mini mentorships are created around events such as Fashion Events and Film/TV opportunities. The selected emerging artists have the opportunity to spend time with a mentor prior to the event to be mentored on a variety of aspects of each event and then progress to work on the event.

Why and How – ‘The Green Brush Project’
The Green Brush Project started as an experiment and thanks to savvy social networks grew in a very short amount of time to an Australia wide project.
The Green Brush Project’s growth and popularity is quickly growing into one of the industries most exciting and innovative projects.
Creator and Founder of the Green Brush Project, Becca Gilmartin, explains…
“As a makeup artist, I have always wished that something existed in Australia for makeup artists that could offer a bit of encouragement and support for makeup artists in a whole range of areas.
As a makeup educator I saw a lot of talented artists start their studies in makeup with real excitement, potential and passion… then after a while of being in the industry either burn out of passion and/or direction or just chase the secure job after getting resigned the industry is too hard… and then the industry loses those talents forever.
At the start of 2010… an after a great mentor experience of my own… I had a ‘what if?’ though…. What if there was a way to keep the talented artists in the game? What if I could create a mentorship programme… get some of my favourite artist in the industry to mentor some emerging artists… what would happen?
From that though… combined with some planning and gumption… the Green Brush Project was born.
The name comes from the simple idea that when an artist first finishes their makeup studies… they are still quite ‘green’ for a while… fresh and ready for nurturing to be able to blossom into an inspiring and amazing artist.
To be quite honest… I wasn’t sure how the project would go. I thought I might get 5 people interested and it would be a once off project. Well… 10 mentors and over 100 applications later in a few short weeks… we are almost ready to start promoting our 2011 Green Brush Project and are anticipating a much larger participation!
We have already launched our mini mentorship programme and are starting to look into creating a scholarship fund which is very freaking exciting!”
How The Green Brush Project’s Emerging Artist Mentorship works:
- Potential Green Brush Emerging Artists put in an application for the career mentorship via the website.
- Senior artists can review the applications in a private forum and choose their artist they wish to mentor.
- The GBP contacts the chosen Green Brush Emerging Artist and puts both artists in contact with each other.
- Senior artists to meet with their Green Brush Emerging Artist to design their mentorship.
- The mentorship is designed to run over approx. 8 weeks.
- The mentorship consists of a workbook, two one on one meetings and weekly over the phone coaching sessions.
- Curriculum has been created for each week of the mentorship and the Green Brush Emerging Artist will be given tasks to complete each week.
- By the end of the 8 weeks… the Green Brush Emerging Artist should have a clear vision on what they need to do to build their business and achieve their goals.

Well… after we went into battle with hackers from the other side of the globe… light sabers and all… we now have a glitch with paypal. This should be rectified by tomorrow. Do not despair…. applications deadline has been extended a week to accommodate these unforeseen hurdles.
Applications close this Friday night at 12 midnight.
Chookas!
Becca :)
Hi! Where can we check out previous winners and see how they’re going? I’d love to see how their careers have benefited from this great project!
X
